Section for Innovation and Development

With the Department of Innovation and Development, the Swiss Paraplegics Association is committed to improving the living conditions of people with spinal cord injuries in Switzerland. Until the end of 2017, the department consisted of the Coordination Office for Innovation and Development and of applied knowledge transfer.

Innovation Centre for Assistive Technologies (IAT) at the SPF: Since the beginning of 2018, the Coordination Office for Innovation and Development has been managed and expanded by the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. In order to ensure the provision of modern aids, the SPF established the Innovation Centre for Assistive Technologies (IAT). As a competence centre and knowledge think-tank, it is the point of contact for new and further development of aids for people with spinal cord injuries. The current nine employees work in Nottwil (LU) and Sierre (VS).

Applied Knowledge Transfer

In the Department of Applied Knowledge Transfer, on the one hand new insights from medicine and research are conveyed in a generally comprehensible manner in order to further improve the social, health and social situation of para- and tetraplegics as well as other disabled persons. On the other hand, the SPC provides students and researchers with internships at the «Health Sciences and Healthcare Policy» seminar at the University of Lucerne so that they can directly learn the needs and requirements of the practice. The aim of this collaboration is the planning and implementation of joint research projects to the benefit of wheelchair users.

Other partnerships include Lucerne University of Engineering & Architecture, Swiss Paraplegic Research Nottwil, Sports Medicine Nottwil and the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.
